Music Publishing |
Springboard Music Publishing was set up to help artistes collect revenue for their work and also to provide advice and support in dealing with the amount of paperwork that this involves. There are various collection agencies where song writers and performers must register their work to enable collection of royalty payments.
Getting a publishing deal for your songs can open up a whole new world for your work to be exploited to its full potential. Many artistes record other peoples songs. If your work is considered of the quality where another artiste wishes cover the work this can also lead to substantial income.
We can help by furnishing your work to other artistes for their consideration. It is normally publishers who approach film and TV companies to submit compositions for inclusion in film scores and for use by TV companies as background music or theme tunes.
When a CD recording is produced and pressed it requires the relevant license from MCPS who deal with the mechanical copyright for the individual work. Most artistes who self produce their work tend to overlook the need for this license. In theory any pressing plant should not press a CD without the relevant license, but in practise this can sometimes happen. Our CD duplication service will not press any recordings without a license.
The advantages for obtaining a manufacturing license for the CD opens doors to a number of possibilities including, sub-licensing, the production rights to territories throughout the world, which is also another source of income.
Further information about MCPS can be found by going to the link on our home page.
As an individual writer you could join PRS. At one time this was free of charge but alas this is now no longer the case. If you are registered with a publisher, the publisher can deal with the collection of PRS revenue on your behalf. If you are not a member of PRS or your songs are not registered any airplay revenue cannot be collected.
We can help guide you through all the paperwork required for a small administration fee. PRS also have reciprocal agreements with other countries and therefore if airplay is achieved away from the UK revenue can be collected providing the territory is part of the reciprocal agreement.
We can help protect your work against any un-authorised copying or piracy of your work.
The relevant societies make payments either a year in arrears or six months in arrears depending on which society is involved.
Currently some of the artistes we represent are, Chris Williams (ABB), Iain Brownlie (the Inflatable Sharks), Julie Levy, Bambie, Graham Nicholls (the Inflatable Sharks), Steve Groves (the Inflatable Sharks), John Holmes (ABB) and Mark Skerritt (ABB). Works from these writers are already under consideration by Famous Music, Acuff Rose, Palm Pictures and Albert Productions. We have submitted material that we consider suitable to various TV and film companies for their appraisal. With the large number of film and independent TV companies today we can provide you with a greater opportunity to get your work heard.
