The Inflatable Sharks [sharks@smltd.net]

The Band

IAIN BROWNLIE (VOCALIST & SONGWRITER)

Iain was born in Oldham and moved to Bristol. Iain is the vocalist with the band and is one of the songwriters. Iain co-wrote "Best Part Of The Day" with Graham Nicholls and also wrote as a solo effort "Morris Minors And Aeroplanes". Iain doesn't feel that he consciously draws influences from any particular artist but acknowledges that he has always had an affectionate ear for popular music being produced by artists such as The Kinks, The Beatles, Crowded House and Squeeze. Iain's all time favourite album is The Stone Roses 1st album 'The Stone Roses' from 1990. Iain believes that that was the album of his generation. Time permitting, Iain loves to watch and play football. His aspirations for the music of "the Inflatable Sharks" is that listeners enjoy it as much as he has enjoyed some of the definitive music of his past. Iain first performed at a charity fundraiser gig in Hawkesbury Upton nr Badminton during July 1998.

GRAHAM NICHOLLS (LEAD GUITAR & SONGWRITER)

Graham was born in Bournemouth Dorset and moved to Bristol at a later date. Graham is the band's Guitarist and also one of the songwriters, co-writing "Best Part Of The Day" with Iain. He has a vast collection of guitars and amps that are too numerous to mention, but would love to earn lots of money to buy even more expensive vintage guitars!! Graham's main influences are George Harrison, Peter Green, Pete Townshend and Steve Cradock (Ocean Colour Scene). The musicians he most admires are The Beatles, The Who, Neal Finn, Brian Wilson and John Barry. Graham's favourite all time album is "Revolver" by The Beatles. Graham started seriously writing songs for his music GCSE around 1989, being marked 136/140 for the compositional element of the course. His first public performance was at Heenans Social Club, Worcester at the age of 7, playing The Shadows "Apache" with his Dad!

STEVE GROVES (BASS GUITAR, BACKING VOCALS & SONGWRITER)

Steve is from Bristol. He spent a few months travelling around Mexico and the States. He also speaks German. Steve loves football and his favourite all time album is "Revolver" by "The Beatles". His greatest influences are The Beatles, Oasis, The Bluetones, Neal Finn and Paul Weller. The fellow bassists he admires the most are Paul McCartney, Mick Quinn (Supergrass) Damon Minchella (Ocean Colour Scene) and Scott Morriss (Bluetones). Steve has also written some of the material that will features on the album "see you on the ice". He started writing songs whilst studying for his A-levels - around the age of 18, and made his first appearance proper with "the Sharks" way back in March 1998

STU ENGLEFIELD (DRUMS)

Stu is Bristol born and bred. Stu also plays guitar and is an accomplished vocalist. He loves listening to all sorts of music and writing music. Stu has appeared on stage with Glen Tilbrook of Squeeze which he regards as a highpoint in his life. His major influences are Squeeze, Level 42, Police, The Who and Ocean Colour Scene. The fellow drummers Stu admires are Stewart Copeland (Police), Keith Moon (The Who) Gilson Lavis (Jools Holland R & B) and Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting). His favourite album is "Some Fantastic Place" by Squeeze. Stu has a great sense of humour and his impersonations of the rich and famous just have to be heard!! Stu started writing songs at the age of 13 and he first performed at a school concert in 1993 at Ridings School, Winterbourne, Bristol in front of what he describes as a captive audience!!
